Pitter patter on the window @ Friday, July 24, 2009
New Jersey and New York's the new Seattle. It's been raining for 14 days. June was also a full month of rain with no sunshine ever.
Anyways, I was on Deviantart and ran into
this amazing artist! Her details are so breathtaking...

Starting to miss Texas a little bit but don't want to leave yet either.
A dose of daily knowledge @ Saturday, July 18, 2009
Came home early today and dug around for some interesting websites.
I read
Passiveaggressivenotes.com and the most notable ones were:

Among more fun links I frequented for the day were:
texts from last night, my very worst date, and
overheard in the office. Then I read my usual round of CNN and NY Times and ran across a game
that tests your driving and texting skills. I was surprised how many lanes I missed and how slow I texted back. Luckily, I took off my text plan and utilize speakerphone if I have to.
Lastly, I read up on architect Steven Holl who is amazing by the way. He piqued my interest since he designed the philosophy department of NYU and that's one of my dental school choices! I've passed this building before while on 5th Avenue in NYC but had I known the interior looked like
this, I would've gone in! Screw you, Donald Trump Tower and Louis Vuitton. This is way cooler!

One hemisphere over, he also designed
the Linked Hybrid in Beijing, which is now complete. As the name suggests, it links 8 giant buildings together.
And just for you, Stan.
The Franz Kafka Society Center. Whoever said libraries weren't cool? :)
Getting lazier at updating @ Wednesday, July 15, 2009
New simpler, layout.
Saw gums being peeled back to expose the bone underneath and surprisingly I'm getting desensitized to blood and everything else. And Jason came back. That's about it. Mostly spent the day off browsing or window shopping online. Purses and other girly stuff. It's so depressing how money is so inflated now.
Getting lazier at updating. This is bad.
Creative way to tell time. Almost didn't see it.One more watch. Less busy. This is such an awesome shirt. This is such an awesome wallet.

31 Hours Down @ Saturday, July 11, 2009
1. It hurts. Everywhere.
2. Getting addicted to caffeine.
3. Got to shadow a pedodontist today. (read: I never want kids.)
4. Started flossing after seeing some seriously infected gums.
Besides this, in seeing these below I read something about
heart shaped watermelons. I'm tired and lazy so I'll end it on this note.

Day 2 @ Tuesday, July 7, 2009
If I can summarize the last two days in two words, it would be Bzzz! (drill) and Gurgle! (suctioning water). Not that I'm complaining, but it's 90% what I hear. My internship is still fun though and the people are super nice :)
Day 1:
- mostly getting oriented with the people and equipment (there's too many!!!)
- being informed on what we did after a patient is done
- watched some X-rays being done
- mostly observation, a little assisting
- only two patients for the day
Day 2:
- lots of patients, lots of water, lots of drilling, lots of blood!
- more blood, tooth pulling, bloody holes in gums, rotten teeth, cavities, denture sculpting, reshaping teeth, synthesizing temporary and permanent cement, and a temporary crown insertion after a root canal
- helped with X-ray being done
- a lot of assisting meaning
very up close observation (so much blood......)
- watched my cousin perform surgery on my uncle
- took a few pictures and recorded a tooth extraction
Seriously guys, brush your teeth! You only get one set! I sympathize for the patients. If cavities aren't convincing, would you like
a giant freaking syringe with numbing agent injected into your mouth?Anyways, I never knew that cardiovascular problems is the most important thing a dentist should screen for (next to allergies and antibiotics) because the standard numbing agent contains epinephrine (adrenaline).
Noteable dentist-to-patient dialogue and personal thoughts:"We're going to numb your mouth to ease the pain."
"
Cool! My first sight of numbing! ...Oh my God! That's a freaky looking syringe! "
I'm not used to blood yet but I think I was thrown in on that one.
Instance 1: bleeding gums:
Ok. He's bleeding a lot but it's not that bad. If this is the worst I witness, easy peasy!.
Instance 2: tooth extraction:
Oh God! There's a profusely bleeding hole where the tooth used to be!...Why is she deliberately digging in and scooping out the blood!?"Suction the blood away from my tool whenever I pull the tool out of the gum please."
"Yes, Doctor...
Oh God. The blood!"
P.S. - Scrubs are amazingly comfy!
Alive but dead @ Sunday, July 5, 2009
I got my wish! I got to see fireworks in NYC, though only from a distance. I spotted Times Square from the plane, though no sign of the bridge. And on the way back, the Empire State building was lit in red, white, and blue. I'll post the video later. It feels good to be reunited with my homestate again...
Most notable about my day spent flying was that the Charlotte, NC airport had equal or more minorities than the majority. I had no idea NC even had a decent minority population. The next notable was when I was waiting for my food (after grabbing tons of
openly accessible ketchup packets...mmm, ketchup), some lady was complaining that she wanted her burger to have ketchup in it. I only started getting irritated when she proceeded to open the bun herself, because she was holding up the line and I had 30 minutes before they boarded the plane. Not that that mattered because the plane had a maintanence issue, was inspected to identify the problem for 30 minutes, and we were ultimately reboarded into another aircraft. Great, an hour worth of delay. Who invented novels again? I would have died if not for that. I'm glad they attempted to solve it, especially after Air France's nosedive into the ocean.
As of today, people are still igniting fireworks. Someone in the neighborhood ignited some for over an hour. I couldn't read my book so I vyed to just watch Independence Day until it stopped. The occasional firework goes off here and there now.
Tomorrow's my first day of interning and first night class for the DAT. I'm nervous for my grade but excited to get to assist and observe. I'm starting to think I'll get my interest back into this field. If not, at least I got to throw on scrubs everyday in comfort instead of deciding formal suit what to wear everyday...
After hours of smelling amalgam and novacain, I get smacked in the face with a grueling 5 hour diagnostic test. Lovely.
I miss you Jason! The worst part is we're on opposite sides of the country and I can't even talk to you after my first day...
explosions in the sky @ Friday, July 3, 2009
New layout for a nice chance of pace. The title, xin teng, is my newly learned bit of Mandarin for the day-- "to love with all one's heart." It was also interesting to learn that "xin" not only means heart but literally means "can't live without."
To do list:
submit updated intern draft
finish Kafka
order textbooks
ASA stuffget on the flight tomorrow
die due to interning + DAT classes
attend the wedding!
The last few days have been productive and eventful but tomorrow's the big day. Kind of sucks to spend July 4th flying, but hopefully I'll spot fireworks if I fly over NYC. And Lady Liberty's crown is finally open again! I hope I can go sometime! :D
I spent the day reading interesting stuff, hunted for more potential books for my "want to read" list, read the news a lot, and looked at or read about countries abroad. I started to miss Korea a lot after this and seeing all my friends travel to exotic places. Every summer always makes me wish I had the money to travel but NJ is better than nothing at least. I'm sure NY will cheer me up again.
Jason just told me this should be an exciting chapter in my life, but why doesn't it feel like it? He's trying to cheer me up at the moment, but my doubts about going into this field of work as a career are overwhelming. I should be more enthusiastic about it...I appreciate it Jason but sorry to say it's not working right now.
So maybe some Godiva milk chocolate cocoa will. That sounds tasty that right about now. Maybe some more novel writing.
Anyways, meet and watch
Mashimaro. He's a fictional Korean fat rabbit usually up to no good. The episodes are pretty funny.
From today's reading:

Seoul-- second largest metropolis in the world

Pocari Sweat. So cute. I would collect these! :)

A bar that was built from a bus in Daegu, S. Korea

My favorite was
Lotte world in the last picture. It has large indoor theme park, an outdoor amusement park, an island linked by monorail, shopping malls, a hotel, a Korean folk museum, sports facilities and movie theaters in one area. And it's still currently the largest indoor theme park in the world! It was my favorite place to visit when I last visited. :)
